Vision Quest

This week's Centus prompt is a photograph of a man dressed in a royal blue, velvet bunny suit...from the sublime to the ridiculous. How can my yearning to write something serious and deep find a resting place in such a photograph? Alas, my yearning will have to be put off to another week. I never seem to fail, however, to connect one dot with another...

starting to nod...call over the 2-way..."jeff, you need to come into the office...they want you in Texas...tomorrow"...the plains of north dakota, unique and an easy survey...yet, this familiar lunch time vista of plains rolling into sprawling lake sakakawea...soon fading into my rear-view...heading back to town...office check-in...packing gear...heading south...drive all night...no time to waste...familiar challenge...non-stop caffeine and pot...midnight snack of champions...late night radio talk iced with hard driving rock...all comes to a head when, somewhere in oklahoma i stop in the middle of the road...avoiding collision with man dressed in royal blue bunny suit... a vision for sure...vision quest i am on...few miles later blue man bunny again...then again...need to sleep...

  4. I like the way you handled this, Jeff. It's a poem, really. And I think I caught a glimpse of your vision...

    ;)

PS. I do think I'll stay clear of this driver, though!

  5. Dear Sweet Jeff,
Thank you for visiting my SC-post for week 51. Thanks for your kind words. To answer your question: Yes, I have an idea where this text is going. There is only about half of it on the SC-Post. What I'll do is I'll scroll down and finish the story, just for you. I'll leave a comment for you so you know when I have finished adding in the rest of the story. Same link.

As to your text: Very funny if it is fiction. Sad if it is factual. I think many working people push themselves too hard (or are pushed by circumstances

Very well-written text. It is both serious and funny.

My "Harvey" is of course a reference to the film Harvey with James Stewart as a man whose invisible friend, Harvey, is a Puka, a giant, invisible rabbit.

Nick Park's children's film The Curse of the Were-Rabbit alludes to Harvey with a carrot-looking sign for the green-grocer whose name is "Harvey".

Peace & Blesings to you too, Jeff!

  10. Only in Oklahoma! This was a fun, fast paced, dream slash nightmare for the poor guy. I hope he got there safely.
Blessings to you and Happy Easter.

  15. This was such free form stream of consciousness writing. I really liked this Jeff. I read it through twice and just fell into the flow and rhythm of your words.

You are on a roll, lately! Something is going on with your writing...you're in a quite different place now.

    I love it.
