Eureka 54

The year is 2312. Ten years have passed since we first volunteered to come to Eureka 54. In these ten years we had successfully managed to establish the infrastructure and life support necessary for a new colony. Now it was time to colonize our new home. I, as senior project engineer, had "first dibs" in selecting from the pool of potential mates. Many had impressive credentials that would be necessary to successfully colonize this new outpost, Eureka 54. But would credentials be enough? My heart was telling me no. My future was on this disc I held in my hand.

"Are you sure that's the one you want?"

I felt a little lump in my throat as I peered down at my choice, held tightly in my hand. I didn't think this would be so nerve-wracking. Was I making the wrong decision? I couldn't agonize over this any longer.

I took a deep breath before managing to say, "... Yes, it is."

Thank you for your visit with my creative offering for another Saturday Centus, a weekly, prompted creative writing exercise brought to us my Ms Jenny Matlock, and our guest prompt writer this week, Sami. I encourage you to visit all the creative responses to this week's prompt.

  1. oh Jeff - very cool. I was smiling at the creativity - taking it to the future, changes the way things work all in 100 words or less. Brilliant
